A bronze figure of Amoghasiddhi Buddha
Kashmir, 13th Century
Seated in dhyanasana on a double-lotus base over a stepped plinth, holding a lasso across the chest, adorned with a foliate garland and beaded jewelry, the face with serene expression surmounted by a tiara, all backed by a flaming aureole capped by a stupa finial, the base with a rearing horse emerging and an inscription

Lot Essay

Representations of animals are fairly prevalent in Kashmiri bronzes, especially in the throne base, as in this example. However, the rearing horse depicted frontally is an unusual feature.
