Camille Bombois (1883-1970)
Property from the Estate of Charles E. Curry Christie's is delighted to present works from the private collection of Charles E. Curry. Mr. Curry was passionate in every aspect of his life--when he was Captain in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945; in his work as a prominent businessman and civic leader in Kansas City, where he tirelessly championed the Equal Rights Amendment in the early-1960s; and as the founder of the Curry Foundation, which supported a number of religious, educational and charitable programs, as diverse as agricultural reform in developing countries to supporting research in astrophysics and astronomy. The following pages reflect Curry's other passion that he aggressively pursued for many years--a diverse, carefully curated collection of Modern Art featuring exceptional paintings by the French Naïve painter's Camille Bombois and André Bauchant, the Vietnamese artist Vu Cao Dam and French artist's Bernard Cathelin, Jacques Martin-Ferrières and Victor Vignon among others. The collection also includes paintings and sculpture by artists such as Alexander Calder, August Rodin, Raoul Dufy, Louis Valtat and Aristide Maillol, that will be offered in Christie's prestigious sales of Post-War and Contemporary Art and Impressionist and Modern Art this Fall.
