Lot Essay

The present lot was inherited by the late Sir Hardy Amies KCVO from his friend and mentor, the Hon Alexis Ffrench on the latter's death in 1956. Ffrench had a well known antiques and decorating business in Pont Street before and after the Second World War and was an inspiration to their mutual friend, John Fowler. The statue featured prominently in all Sir Hardy Amies' various gardens and has been featured in a number of books and magazine articles.
