Lot Essay

The present table is a direct copy of Jean-Henri Riesener's original supplied in 1780 for Marie-Antoinette's cabinet intérieur at Versailles.

E.-Guillaume-Edmond Lexcellent (b. 1834) first opened a shop at 46, rue de Charenton in 1867. He relocated to 8, rue Breguet where the firm continued in business until 1928. He exhibited 'des meubles de luxe de divers styles' at the 1855, 1867 and 1889 Expositions Universelles, where he was awarded a médaille de bronze as well as a médaille d'argent.
