A PAIR OF UNUSUAL DATED DEDICATORY BRONZE HANGING CENSERS
DATED TO THE 12TH YEAR OF DAOGUANG, CORRESPONDING TO 1833, AND OF THE PERIOD (1821-1850)
Each made in the shape of a hanging hexagonal basket, with key fret borders and an openwork upright rim of wan diaper rim surrounding a platform with central opening fitted with a cover with foliate cutouts on the sides and surmounted by a pomegranate and peach with openings for the release of smoke, flanked by two arched rings to which the angular arched handle is hooked, each with a dedicatory inscription, one inscription dated, 'made during the 12th year of Daoguang, in the first month of spring on an auspicous day'

Lot Essay

The inscriptions indicate that the censers were 'presented by grateful disciples Liu Kuiduan and Li Zhenfu.'
The handles can be removed so that the censers can also be used in a stationary fashion.
