The shape of the present wall panels, with a stepped bottom frame, was well known throughout the mid-Qing period. A wall panel of similar form, although embellished with cranes amidst pine, can be seen on the east wall of the Chong Hua Gong (Palace of Double Brilliance), illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - Furniture of the Ming and Qing Dynasties (II), Hong Kong, 2002, p. 306, no. 259. Another Qianlong period wall panel of the same shape, although in carved red lacquer, was sold in these rooms, 21 March 2000, lot 67.
