AN UNUSUAL FRAMED CARVED DUAN STONE LANDSCAPE PANEL
18TH/19TH CENTURY
Well carved in high relief with Shoulao seated on a crane and three immortals standing on clouds flying above pavilions nestled amidst trees and rock formations rising from rolling, froth-crested waves, one of the immortals, Zhang-guo Lao, throwing iron rods from his bamboo drum towards vapor rising from an elongated arrow vase raised on a stand, all carved from the dark reddish-brown, greyish-green and buff areas of the stone; within a hardwood frame carved with archaistic dragon scroll
