Lot Essay

A slightly smaller (28.3 cm.) Guangxu period famille rose basin of closely related shape, although painted with butterflies, narcissus and lotus, is in the collection of the Nanjing Museum, illustrated in Treasures in the Royalty: The Official Kiln Porcelain of the Chinese Qing Dynasty, Shanghai, 2003, pp. 448-9, where it is referred to as a 'basket'.
