Thomas Hart Benton (1889-1975)
Property from the Collection of Marie B. and Edward F. Swenson, Jr. For Edward and Marie Swenson, the act of collecting art extended far beyond acquiring the actual works that came to comprise their outstanding collection. They were true connoisseurs who served as members of the Museum of Modern Art's International Council, travelers who ventured widely in search of the best works and patrons who fostered the growing art scene within their own city of Miami, Florida. Over the course of their collecting odyssey, which took place primarily between the mid-1960s and early 1980s, they had the privilege of meeting some of the world's most notable artists, including Thomas Hart Benton, whose work held special meaning for the couple.
