Lot Essay

The pomegranate was introduced to Egypt in the 18th Dynasty, becoming a popular subject matter for small vessels in faience, stone, glass and wood. For a faience example, cf. L. M. Berman, Catalogue of Egyptian Art, The Cleveland Museum of Art, 1999, p. 281, no. 203.
