Lot Essay

Hares were often given as a love gift between an older to a younger man, and it is possible that this aryballos performed a similar function.
For a similar hanging hare, cf. F. Buranelli, The Etruscans, Legacy of a Lost Civilization, Memphis, 1992, no. 85.
