This is a very rare example of a cosmetic dish dating from the late Hellenistic or early Roman Empire. A similar small dish with a scooped out top and decorated with concentric circles on the underside of the base but made in opaque red glass is preserved in the Newark Museum, cf. S. H. Auth, Ancient Glass at the Newark Museum, Newark, 1976, p. 46, no. 34.
