Lot Essay

This bowl belongs to a group of glass vessels in use from the late 2nd-3rd century A.D. which are, on occasions, decorated with either an applied trail or a ridge on the underside of the rim. In this example a trail of opaque white glass was used but this appears yellow, the result of being viewed through the yellowish glass.
