Lot Essay

Two kilims of similar field design but without metal-thread are illustrated by Nazan Ölcer, Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts: Kilims, Istanbul 1989, pp.134-135, pl.44 and by Eberhart Herrmann, Seltene Orientteppiche VI, Munich 1984, pp.38-39, pl.4. The use of metal-thread in kilims is rare particularly when not only metal-thread has been used but also short metal "sticks" which have been stitched through the warps.
