Lot Essay

The design in this lot derives from a pair of 16th Century Tabriz carpets one of which is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (M. S. Dimand and Jean Mailey, Oriental Rugs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, pp.134-135, fig.67), the second is in the Musée des Tissus de Lyon (Armen Tokatlian, Soies de Paradis. Tapis et Textiles d'Orient du Musée des Tissus de Lyon, Paris, 2008, pp.42-43, pl.9)
