Including Qur'an XXXVI (sura ya-sin), XLVIII (sura al-fath), LVI (sura al-waqi'a), LXXVIII (sura al-naba'), Arabic manuscript on paper, 35ff. plus 2 fly-leaves, each folio with 7ll. of elegant black naskh, with black-outlined gold roundel verse markers, each line with cloud bands on gold ground, each sura divided by a gold cartouche, text within polychrome-ruled gold frame, with gold and polychrome illuminated heading, colophon possibly dated in Abjad da ha ta (9th day, 5th month, 4th year of reign - 1711 AD), in stamped maroon morocco binding

Lot Essay

The real name of Yaqut Raqam Khan, known as 'the second Yaqut', was Muhammad 'Arif al-Harawi. He received the title of Yaqut Raqam Khan from the Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah I (Shah 'Alam I) (r. 1707-1712).
