In another painting from the fifth Baghavata Purana series depicting Akrura's vision of Vishnu/Krishna, the figures of the God and Akrura are depicted immersed in the water in an identical manner to that used by the painter of our miniature, with light grey brushes covering the otherwise fully painted figures (Indian Court Painting: 16th-19th century, exhibition catalogue, New York, 1997, p.102, cat.61). The two scenes were probably painted by the same artist, possibly Fattu as suggested in the discussion to lot 395. Other paintings from this series sold Christie's, New York, 20 March 2002, lot 149, London, 23 September 2005, lot 49 and Sotheby's, New York, 19 September 2008, lots 225 to 229.
