The square tile with white ground painted in cobalt and turquoise blue, with a central vase issuing carnation sprays linked by a cloud-collar, flanked on each side by cypress trees

Lot Essay

Tiles of this design were widely used throughout the Ottoman world, appearing in the Yeni Cami in Istanbul and in the "Blue" (Aqsunqur) Mosque (tilework 1652-64 AD) in Cairo amongst a number of others.
