FIRST EDITION, VOL.III WITH THE SECOND ISSUE TITLE AND HALF-TITLE. The first volume contains King's account of the expedition in the Adventure made between 1826 and 1830, which surveyed the coasts of Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. The remaining volumes cover the Beagle's second voyage. Volume two contains Fitzroy's account of the voyage with the appendix including a meteorological journal, official instructions, letters, and notes. The third volume is '[Darwin's] first published book [and] is undoubtedly the most often read and stands second only to On the origin of Species as the most often printed' (Freeman p.31). This volume was published under two different titles: the first issue with the title starting Narrative of the surveying voyages..., and the second issue (as here) with the title Journal of Researches into the Geology and Natural History....
