Lot Essay

The German born artist Antonion Zeo Shindler became a drawing master at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, where he was a regular exhibitor. In the early 1870's Shindler joined the English lawyer and philanthropist William Blackmore on a tour of the American West where he photographed and painted Native American subjects.
