Second edition of this 'interesting and attractive work' which includes a fine series of hand-coloured costume plates. The first edition had appeared the year before with only 12 plates, all uncoloured. Born in Constantinople, Deval was a pupil at the French interpreters' school during the important period he records. He afterwards published several important works on ophthalmology, training in Vienna and practising in Paris. Atabey 347 (refers to this second copy); Blackmer 480; Colas I, 853; Lipperheide Lb 54.
