A large Chinese verte-Imari armorial 'Provinces' dish with the arms of Artois
Circa 1720
Painted and gilt to the centre with the coat-of-arms and inscribed 'Artoys', flanked by large peony blooms and butterflies, the gilt brown-edged rim decorated with an underglaze blue trellis pattern reserved with various lobed cartouches of flowers and figures in landscapes, the well with vignettes of fish and shrimp, the standring pierced for hanging
