NORTH EAST IRAN, 12TH CENTURY
Heavily cast with flat base, slightly inverted sides and everted rim, the interior decorated with a central roundel containing seven circles filled with arabesque or avian motifs formed and joined with interlacing silver-inlaid strapwork, around this a band of engraved kufic calligraphy and a plain copper band, the rim with further silver-inlaid calligraphy interrupted by silver and copper concentric circles, the exterior with cartouches with naskh on a ground of scrolling vine alternated with bird roundels, the underside engraved with a central roundel containing a harpy, a number of plain engraved bands and one of meandering arabesques, slight losses to inlay
