Arabic and Persian manuscript on paper, 83ff., 2 fly leaves, each folio with a panel of calligraphy with lines of black or colourful decoupé naskh or nasta'liq arranged in different formations, 2ff. with miniatures, one European and one Safavid, most folios laid down in wide colourful margins decorated with coloured paper decoupé with various floral and arabesque designs, some of the panels with further colourful roundels or rosettes stuck down, some small damages, in lacquer binding with central black medallion issuing pendants and decorated with scrolling vine on a ground of polychrome floral sprays, similar black borders, doublures with black medallions on black ground, binding now separate

Lot Essay

The album from which these folios originate is a Royal one reputed to have been made for Nasir al-Din Shah in 1888, probably to commemorate the 40th anniversary of his accession to the throne.

Other folios from the same album were sold in these Rooms, 10 October 2000, lots 88, 89, 90 and 91.
