Lot Essay

This is an unusual rug, with the mihrab divided into several registers containing hooked diamond medallions and geometric devices within an ivory star-and-tendril border and narrow serrated accompanying borders. For a similar example, see Jere L. Bacharach and Irene A. Bierman, The Warp and Weft of Islam, Washington, 1978, p. 86.
