The Roman historian Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus is best known for his work De vita Caesarum (often translated as The Twelve Caesars). Published in 121 CE, the book is a set of twelve biographies of Roman Emperors beginning with Julius Caesar, and is considered one of the most significant primary sources on Roman history. In addition to documenting the political history of Rome from the late Republic to the end of the Flavian Dynasty, The Twelve Caesars also provides fascinating details on the Emperors' lives including accounts of family life, physical appearance and personal habits.
