The cup and cover on a hexafoil lobed foot, each lobe engraved with a fleur-de-lys, the stem applied with cast scrolls and dolphins, the cup lobed with engraved coats-of-arms, the cover lobed with cast figural finial, the base engraved with an inscription, the beakers circular and chased all over with strapwork, fruit and acanthus, each with four oval cartouches engraved with poems relating to drinking, the cup and cover marked on foot, each beaker marked underneath
The cup and cover 16¾ in. (42.5 cm.) high, the beakers 3¼ in. (8.2 cm.) high; 69 oz. (2,151 gr.) (7)

Lot Essay

The inscription on the base of the cup reads "MEMORIAE COLLEGII FRAUENSTEINIANI ANTE HAEC QUINQUE SAECULA CONSTITUTI MDCCCLXIX."
