Formed as the Warwick Vase, on square plinth and with spreading foot, the body cast and chased with a band of acanthus foliage and with a lion's pelt, bacchic masks and thrysus, applied beneath the egg-and-dart rim with a band of trailing vines, with two reeded handles, the base of cushion-form with festoons, pulvinated frieze and egg-and-dart borders, the circular sideboard dish similarly decorated and with flat-chased scrolling foliage, the base and dish engraved with two emblems, marked on vase, base, and under dish
The vase 21 in. (53.3 cm.) wide over handles; the vase and stand 17¾ in. (45 cm.) high; the sideboard dish 30 in. (76.5 cm) diameter; 751 oz. 10 dwt. (23,378 gr.) (3)

Lot Essay

The two engraved emblems are those of King Amanulla Khan of Afghanistan (Born Paghman, Afghanistan 1882, died Zurich, Switzerland 1960).
