Each with spreading shaped oval base on four paneled quatrefoil feet with bead and flower decoration on a matted ground, the base with elaborate foliate scroll panels below a removable half-clad figure, each enclosed by an openwork archway with flowers, beads and acanthus scrolls, supporting a removable pierced basket with conforming decoration, each with shaped oval fitted cut-glass dish with floral decoration, each marked under basket, on figure, and under base
13¼ in. (33.5 cm.) high with glass; 95 oz. (2,959 gr.) weighable silver (2)

Lot Essay

At the International Exhibition of 1862 in London, E & E Emanuel made a prodigious display of "works of art, etc., in the precious metals; jewels, horological machinery" including an extensive table service described as "allegorical of the International Exhibition."

A similar pair of figural compotes sold Christie's, New York, 30 October 1991, lot 127.
