Carved with geometric motifs throughout, the lid with a carved and incised with the Royal-Coat-of-Arms, surmounted by the initials 'I. R.' flanked by the Irish harp and French fleur-de-lys, the sides carved with panels depicting animals, including a crowned lion, stag and winged griffin, with further initials to the front 'I.R' and to the side 'R.G', the interior of the lid incised with a figure in a doublet and breeches, beside a cannon with various instruments of warfare beneath, the subdivided interior with three lidded compartments carved overall with geometric motifs, two lids incised with the initials 'L.I', later acorn finials
