Lot Essay

An identical chair is illustrated in an article in Antiques entitled 'The first century of the English Windsor chair 1720-1820' by Simon Jervis, 1979, pg 360-366, fig.4. which Captain James Cook (1728- 1779) took with him on his final circumnavigation of the world which began in 1776 (owned by Trinity House, Hull).
