THE VERY BEST FROM ANTINORI: SOLAIA AND TIGNANELLO
Marchesi Antinori, perhaps the world's most historic wine family, has a heritage that includes 26 generations and over 625 years of wine production in Tuscany and Umbria, tracing its winemaking history to 1385. The family is headquartered in Palazzo Antinori, located in the heart of Florence in a 15th-century architectural jewel. Marchese Piero Antinori, chairman and patriarch of the family company, is one of the most influential individuals, not only in Italy, but in the entire world of wine, and today leads Marchesi Antinori with his three daughters, Albiera, Allegra and Alessia. He is intelligent, eloquent, both progressively innovative and respectful of tradition and believes that
"Age-old roots play an important role in our philosophy, but they have not served to inhibit our innovative spirit." This sentiment is the cornerstone of the philosophy that inspires Antinori's wine-making and in practice has shown the world that wines from Tuscany and Umbria can possess elegance and finesse even as their native character is preserved.
The following is an unprecedented offering of the best Italy has to offer -- Tignanello and Solaia in varying formats and an incredibly rare Balthazar (12 L) of each. Both from the Tenuta Tignanello estate, situated in the heart of Chianti Classico, the native Sangiovese variety along with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc produce the epitome of Super-Tuscan wine. This is a rare opportunity to acquire hard to find formats, direct from the producer.
TIGNANELLO: THE ORIGINAL SUPER TUSCAN
Tignanello is intensely fruity, full-bodied, rich and complex with exceptional structure and a lengthy finish. Made exclusively from the vineyard of the same name, this was the first Sangiovese to be aged in barriques, the first modern red wine blended with non-traditional varieties like Cabernet, and one of the first red wines in Chianti not to use white grapes. Tignanello, originally "Chianti Classico Riserva vigneto Tignanello" was first made from a single vineyard in the 1970 vintage and as Tignanello is only made in the best vintage years, the wine's superior quality is assured.
Tignanello--Vintage 1977
Tuscany, Antinori
Level: top shoulder; lightly corroded capsule, signs of old seepage, lightly wine stained and lightly bin soiled label, original carton labelled "Imperiale da Litre 5"
