Woven in silks and wools, depicting a triumphal procession, probably 'The Triumph of Alexander', with a seated figure in the centre right being presented with gifts and prisoners, to the left a mounted general and behind him a triumphal procession with an elephant and musicians and spectators in the background, within a floral border decorated with military trophies and centred to top and bottom with oval portrait medallions, within a blue outer slip

Lot Essay

The design of this tapestry is closely based on Charles LeBrun's (d. 1690) Triumph of Alexander, which was first woven in 1664.
