AN ARCHAISTIC PALE CELADON JADE VESSEL AND COVER, FANGDING
19TH/20TH CENTURY
Of flattened rectangular form, carved to the body in high relief with stylised taotie masks and 'S'-shaped scroll flanges along the edges and down the center, the sides with monster-masks grasping elaborate rings, with a pair of upright pierced loop handles, supported on four tall stepped feet emerging from mythical beast masks, the base with an incised apocryphal Qianlong mark, the cover surmounted with a Buddhist lion and cub playing with a brocade ball, the stone of an even white tone
