Gilt-finished two train verge movement, chain fusée, pierced gilt brass foliage decorated alarm going barrel, alarm striking on one hammer onto a bell, pierced and engraved foliage decorated balance cock, blued steel regulation slide, chased silver dial with Roman numerals, lozenge-shaped half-hour divisions, inner quarter hour divisions, single steel hand, inner rotating alarm ring with Arabic numerals, central steel alarm hand, raised foliage decorated centre, circular case, pierced and engraved band decorated with foliage, birds and huntsmen and dogs chasing a hare, split bezel with seven-piece hinge, pinwork and pierced leather-covered silver outer protective case, movement signed

Lot Essay

The present watch is a fine example for watchmaking in Geneva following the introduction of the balance spring by Huygens in 1675, featuring the two-footed cock typical for the period.

The master watchmaker Jaques Morel was active in Geneva in the last quarter of the 17th century.
