With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with leather strap in 1955 and its subsequent sale on 13 December 1955.
This reference 2526 is a rather unusual specimen as the surfaces of the lugs and the heavy woven bracelet are finished in a little known silk texture. Whereas Patek Philippe's do not record the gold bracelet, one can safely assume that it was added immediately following the purchase by the first owner who, simultaneously, requested his "twenty five-twenty six" to be finished in this unique style. Overall preserved in very good condition, this example remains one of Patek Philippe's most timeless designs ever blessed with the most beautiful automatic movement ever built. The ivory-coloured enamel dial is a fantastic highlight for which this reference takes a prominent position in every important collection.
Reference 2526
Reference 2526, introduced in 1953, was Patek Philippe's first model featuring an automatic movement, the legendary calibre 12-600 AT. The majority was cased in yellow gold, a small series in pink gold (see lot 247 in this auction) and an exceedingly limited number in white gold and in platinum (see lot 301).
