Lot Essay

The stamped L 7621 81 and DC within an oval probably refer to the 1881 inventory number of the Royal House of Savoy, DC standing for "Dotazione Corona" or Crown Property (Christie's, London, 4 December 2008 , lot 147). Several pieces from the Villa Reale of Monza have inventory numbers starting with L so it is possible that this piece was for some time in the Monza palace. (Christie's, London 11 December 2003, lot 40). The blue-painted number 11048 could refer to the 1908 Royal House Savoy Inventory. It has not been possible to identify for certain the provenance of the other inventory numbers on the top of the bracket
