8° (171 x 100m). Contemporary sprinkled calf tooled in gilt and blind, red leather label (rubbed, some wear at spine with lower compartment missing, flyleaf loosening). Provenance: Edmund Waller (1606-87; presentation inscription 'For my noble friend Mr Waller') -- R. Oakeley (19th-century inscription).

PRESENTATION COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION TO THE POET AND POLITICIAN, EDMUND WALLER. Friend of Thomas Hobbes and John Evelyn, Waller became fast friends with Higgons when both men were young members of Parliament. Higgons work records the deeds of the Turkish hero Iussuf Bassa, commander of the Turkish Army in the siege of Crete during the war against the Venetians.
