A FINE AND LARGE CARVED 'LOTUS' LONGQUAN CELADON CHARGER
MING DYNASTY, EARLY 15TH CENTURY
Sturdily potted and fluidly carved in the centre with a large lotus blossom supported on a curved stalk with curling leafy tendrils, the cavetto with a band of scrolling lotus below the broad mouth rim with a band of classic scrolls, the underside with a band of scrolling lotus encircling the low foot ring, covered in a glaze of rich olive-green tone, the underside base with an unglazed circle burnt orange in the firing

Lot Essay

A very similarly carved slightly larger bracket-lobed dish dated to the late 14th-early 15th century, is illustrated by R. Krahl and J. Ayers, Chinese Ceramics in the Topkapi Saray Museum, Istanbul, vol. I, London, 1986, p. 314, no. 291.
