With flared rim and straight foot, the exterior finely incised with two dragons among cloud-flames in pursuit of flaming pearls over waves, the decoration picked out in rich aubergine reserved against the translucent green ground

Lot Essay

Another Qianlong bowl of this design was included in the Special Exhibition of Dragon-Motif Porcelain in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1983, no.75; one from the Reemtsma Collection was included in the exhibition Tausend Jahre Chinesische Keramik, Museum fur Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg, 1974, no. 228.

An almost identical bowl to the present lot, formerly in the Edward T. Chow Collection, was sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 29 May 2007, lot 1488.
