The interior delicately painted in iron-red with five bats, their wings outstretched and arranged in a circle, the cavetto skilfully painted with twelve bats variously in flight, between underglaze blue borders of double-circles, the reverse similarly decorated with eight bats

Lot Essay

The decoration and composition of iron-red bats on the present dishes are after the Yongzheng prototype, a pair of which were sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 29 October 1991, lot 184.
