Marc Bolan
A flamboyant stage costume, the cropped jacket of black velvet with multi-coloured psychedelic motif and two-tone purple silk lapel and cuffs, with zip fastening and scalloped edged trim to waistband, labelled inside Alkasura, worn by Marc Bolan on numerous occasions circa 1975-1977; accompanied by four photographs of Bolan wearing an identical jacket, four picture discs featuring Bolan in a similar jacket and a letter concerning the provenance (10)

Lot Essay

Marc Bolan is seen wearing a smiliar jacket on a number of occasions from the mid-1970s onwards. The jacket has been documented in images of Bolan wearing it in the studio, for publicity shots and on stage during a Television performance on the Bay City Rollers Show, 1975 performing his current release New York City. According to the vendor this jacket was given to him by Bolan's parents on the 16 February 1978, following Marc's untimely death the previous September. Marc had left the garment with his mother asking her to replace the zip.
