Edo Period (early-mid-17th century)
The rectangular casket with hinged doors decorated in gold and silver hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, nashiji and mother-of-pearl inlay on a black ground in transition style with pavillions in landscapes and flowers and grasses, the doors opening to reveal six inner drawers, the top lifting to reveal a further compartment, copper gilt fittings and lockplate engraved with flowers and geometric patterns
