Of tall abstract form, the surface with mushi-kui [insect-eaten] effect, with tomobako titled Do kabin, Wafu [Bronze Flower Vase, Japanese Style] and signed Nitten Hyogiin, Taizo [Nitten Board Member, Taizo and sealed Kasai Taizo, (Kasai Taizo, b. 1915)

Lot Essay

Kasai Taizo was born in Takaoka in Toyama Prefecture, where he has worked throughout his life. He was first accepted into the Nitten in 1950 and in 1952 he exhibited at the California exposition. In 1963 and 1970, his Nitten entries won the tokusen [grand prize]. In 1971 he was commissioned to make a flower vase for the Imperial Household Agency.
