Château Lafite-Rothschild--Vintage 1991
Pauillac, 1er cru classé
A classical harvest with alternating rain and sun, but the properties had already suffered the worst frosts in decades. Nevertheless, the vintage is surprising in its quality and consistence.
Tasting note:
'Remarkably drinkable'. One of my highest marks at an MW tasting of '91s in 1995: fragrant, light style, lean, attractive. Again, in 2000. Most recently, two magnums: medium-deep, mature appearance; lovely, fragrant, cedary nose; touch of sweetness, 'decent flavour' and a light, refreshing bite. Last tasted July 2004 *** Now - 2010. MG
