Château Margaux--Vintage 1985
Margaux, 1er cru classé
After a quite cool and late start to the growing season, this vintage was influenced by very advantageous ripening and harvesting conditions, especially during the months of September and October, which were very hot and dry. The leaves on the vines refused to fall until late into November. This Indian summer will be remembered a long time. (The picking began on 26th September)
Tasting note:
Evolving perfectly through the 1990s and by the Millennium almost beyond description. 'Soft, feminine yet determined'. Six notes since. Surprisingly deep; lovely, rich, complex, many-layered bouquet. In March 2005: deep, velvety; very good flavour, leaner than expected, dry finish. Most recently: fairly deep, impressive, black cherry core yet mature; typically appealing, forthcoming bouquet; sweet and soft, wonderful flesh and flavour, good finish. Easy to drink by itself. Last tasted April 2006 ***** Now - 2020. MB
