Château Cheval-Blanc--Vintage 1986
Saint-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé (A)
After a cold and very rainy month of April during which the vegetation cycle got slightly behind schedule, summer 1986 was rather dry. From May through the end of September, temperatures were close to the normal values for the season. As a consequence of the delays in the spring cycle, harvesting was fairly late. The first plot of Merlot was picked on October 1st and harvesting went on until the 18th. The crop was plentiful.
Tasting note:
Most recently: very deep, fairly intense but 'only thinking about' maturing; fragrant but somewhat peppery on nose and palate. Good firm fruit though, and went well with the beef. Last noted March 1997 **(**) Should turn out well 2010-2020. MB
