Château Cheval-Blanc--Vintage 1992
Saint-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé (A)
A year of spectacular weather contrasts. While May was very hot and sunny, June was awful with no less than 200 mm of rain. The weather improved in July, and August was warm and very wet, followed by a near-normal month of September alternating cool weather, sun and rain. Having produced little in 1991, the vines proved to be generous in 1992, with particularly strong growth in May. In June, the vine-growers had to be particularly vigilant to avoid downy mildew or grey rot. The harvest started moderately early on 24th September and came to a close on 9th October. Despite a few showers during the picking, practically all the harvest was brought in dry weather. The grapes were not particularly rich, but they were well balanced and there were plenty of them.
