'THE LOVERS' A JENS JAKOB BREGNØ (1877-1946) CARVED SANDSTONE GROUP
SCULPTURE The Fine and Decorative Art of sculpture has been embraced by cultures around the world from Ancient times to the present day. Sculpture can be made from a huge variety of materials, in fact almost anything that may be shaped into a three dimensional form. Historically only the strongest and most resilient materials have survived and these universally would be stone and bronze together with the slightly more fragile fired clay and wood. The sculptures on these pages are not from antiquity but in materials they do represent a continuity of tradition from the chiseled, carved and abraded stone, the modeled, moulded and cast ceramic group, the carved wood and the modelled and cast bronze.
