Lot Essay

This craftman's signature is most likely to be that of William Lupton (II), who was recorded as the son of Charles Lupton also a cabinetmaker for Gillows, and apprenticed to Robert in Lancaster and George and Richard Gillow in Oxford Street to serve from 23rd May 1804. See S. E. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London, 2 vols, Woodbridge, 2008, vol.2, page 262
